The story

Borrowed from Arabic سِوَارهَا (siwārhā, literally “her bracelet”), so named because Betelgeuse derives from Arabic يَد الجَوْزَاء (yad al-jawzāʔ, literally “hand of Jawzāʾ”); جَوْزَاء f (jawzāʔ, “Jawzāʾ”) is a female figure in Arabian legend.

Today it means

name The companion protostar in orbit around Betelgeuse.
