The story

Probably borrowed from Semai Temiir, Temèèr (‘Temiar’), or a cognate such as Lanoh Təmyɛl (‘Temiar’), itself probably from a Malayo-Polynesian term cognate to Javanese tambér, Madurese tambir and Sundanese tambir (all "to stick to the edge"); possibly compare Austroasiatic terms such as Bulo Stieng bər (‘rim’), Laven bi̤ər (‘rim’), Lawi tapiər (‘rim’) (Proto-Bahnaric *ɓər), Nyah Kur [script needed] (bíər, “edge of soft-shelled turtle carapace”), and Khasi tmier (‘edge’).

Today it means

noun An Aslian language (belonging to the wider Austroasiatic family) spoken by the Temiar people.

Language periods are conventional ranges, not dates for this word.
